~ CHARLES RENNIE MACKINTOSH ~

Who is Charles Rennie Mackintosh?

Quite simply, he was one of Scotland’s most famous architects and interior designers, born in Glasgow 1868. His extraordinary body of work is evident throughout Glasgow today, as people visit the most well-known Mackintosh attractions, some of which are listed below.

Some of the main Mackintosh attractions in and around Glasgow that highlight and feature his work include:

Daily Record Building

Built in the early 1900’s, this building has all the markings of a Mackintosh design, and it was where newspaper production began shortly afterwards. Nowadays, it can only be viewed as an external building.

The Glasgow School of Art

Sadly, two fires in recent years took a foothold on what was considered his masterpiece building. Nevertheless, it is most certainly worth a visit if you are an admirer of his work.

Mackintosh at the Willow

Mackintosh’s unique Tea Rooms “Mackintosh at the Willow,” can be found on Sauchiehall Street and underwent a refurbishment in 2018. Famous for its traditional afternoon tea, it is a charming place to visit.

Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum

A surprisingly large display of Mackintosh items is on display at the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, with a large area dedicated to the work of Charles Rennie Mackintosh.

Helensburgh Club

Located at 38-40 Sinclair Street in Helensburgh, it opened in 1895 as a clubhouse. The innovate design still stands the test of time and it costs just £3.00 to visit this visitor attraction.

Scotland Street School Museum

One of his last commissions was certainly not done on a small scale. This impressive building certainly does a good job of showcasing CRM at his best.

The Mackintosh House

The architecture and design work of Charles Rennie Mackintosh is timeless. At the Mackintosh House located in the Hunterian Museum in Glasgow, enjoy a self-guided tour of a display that brings to life his work through a reassembling of the interiors of the original Mackintosh home where he and his wife lived in the 1900’s.

The Glasgow Art Club

Established in 1867, the Glasgow Art Club obtained their own property in 1892.
