OVO Hydro
OVO Hydro plays host to national and international music megastars as well as global entertainment and sporting events.
With a maximum capacity of 14,300, OVO Hydro augments the SEC’s existing facilities and stages 140+ events annually. Since opening in September 2013, OVO Hydro has staged the 2014 MTV Europe Music Awards, the Ryder Cup Gala Concert and the 2014 BBC Sports Personality of the Year. It was also a venue for the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
Attracting an audience of more than a million visitors each year, the venue is consistently ranked by Pollstar in the top 10 arenas globally. It has just been crowned the best performing mid-sized venue in the world.
The Finnieston venue, which just celebrated its fifth birthday, rang in nearly £38.5million in a year beating Hamburg’s Barclaycard Arena, Zurich’s Hallenstadion and Berlin’s Mercedes-Benz Arena to the top spot on Billboard’s Boxscore list.
The reason it has been voted number one is the diversity of shows that are on. Leading up to Christmas there are events such as; a showing of Tim Burton’s Nightmare Before Christmas and Elf the musical and the “Christmas spectacular” show. All sure to get you in the festive mood. The diversity doesn’t stop when it comes to the gigs that will be appearing at the Hydro either. From heavy rock like Ghost, Alter Bridge and slipknot, to vintage superstars such as Rod Stewart and Elton John.
Also with great current bands coming soon like The lumineers, The 1975 and The Coral, and not to forget homegrown hero Gerry Cinnamon playing a couple of dates. Spread throughout the festive shows and gigs are plenty of other great shows. Stand up comedy from the likes of Jack Whitehall and Jim Jeffries. Even still there are more diverse shows like “a girls day out”, “We Love the 90s” and for a bit of nostalgia the Glasgow play “The Steamie”.
