09 Apr Book A Stay for Summer Nights Festival!
Summer Nights at Kelvingrove Bandstand
Glasgow is renowned for having a packed-out summer events diary, but arguably at the top of most locals’ lists are the Summer Nights concerts hosted by Kelvingrove Park’s outdoor bandstand. Spend the night watching the sun go down as you sing along to your favourite band’s best hits, drink in hand, smiles all round, making memories that’ll last a lifetime.
The program this year features some big-hitters. Expect eighties punk rock from The Pretenders (set to be a sell-out for sure), mellow folk from Swedish duo First Aid Kit, Van Morrison belting out his smash hits, and indie vibes from Fleet Foxes. The park is the perfect venue for open-air gigging with its amphitheater-style tiered seating and trademark, West End bohemian vibe. Make a day of it by staying overnight at our hotel (check our blog page for upcoming offers!), a three-star residence on the banks of the River Kelvin.
Our staff are always on-hand to give you recommendations, but pre-concert we’d suggest starting off with a wander through the park after grabbing coffee – and a cake, would be rude not to! – at Cottonrake bakery on Great Western Road. Pass through Glasgow University’s historic buildings before making your way through tree-lined boulevards towards Kelvingrove Museum and Art Gallery. Go visit some of the old Masters before treating yourself to freshly-made soup and roll, then walk it off with a jaunt down to the River Clyde. It’ll be a hike back to the hotel, but take the route back along the River Kelvin and it’ll be worth a weary pair of legs.
Once you’ve done your exploring, indulge in a quick disco-nap in our supremely comfortable beds before getting your glad rags on (ponchos are provided by the venue free of charge, just in case – this is Glasgow after all!). A pit-stop at the Oran Mor for dinner and drinks will get you ready for the night of dancing ahead and, even better, is a short stroll from our front door. Summer Nights gigs are well known for having a great buzz of energy around them, especially when the weather is fine, so expect to be making yourself some new friends as you enjoy the music. Closing time is around 10:30pm, so you’ve plenty of hours spare to get a night cap on the way home at Ashton Lane (try Brel for a chilled-out drink at that time of night) and walk the short distance back to your bed.
With an itinerary like that, we’re jealous already! Remember to book direct for the Kelvingrove Hotel’s best rates and most up-to-date availability, and be sure to check out our regular deal updates to get a nice little discount to line the coffers for Glasgow wanderings.
